OPENING TIP: The Chicago State women's basketball team kicks off the month of December with an inter-city home contest Friday night against Loyola at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center in a live broadcast on the WAC Digital Network beginning at 7 p.m.

SCOUTING CSU: Chicago State comes into the Loyola contest with a season record of 0-7 following Wednesday night's 71-54 loss at Western Illinois despite junior guard Tiana Thomas (Rockton, Ill./Hononegah) leading three players in double figure scoring with a season-best 13 points. The Green and White are paced by redshirt sophomore forward Ines Mata Boix (Madrid, Spain) as she is averaging 12.4 points, 9.6 rebounds, 3.0 blocked shots and 2.6 steal per game in addition to shooting 54 percent from the field. Freshman guard Tyeshia Bowers (Flint, Mich./Southwestern) ranks second on the team in scoring (11.4 ppg) and rebounds (4.4 rpg) while dishing out a team-leading 21 assists on the year. Redshirt senior guard Phylicia Johnson (Columbus, Ohio/Pickerington Central) is the third CSU player scoring a double figure average with 10.5 points a game.

SCOUTING LUC: In the midst of a four-game road swing, Loyola opened its stretch Tuesday in Milwaukee with a 92-30 defeat to No. 20 Marquette with freshman guard/forward Abby O'Connor leading the Ramblers with 11 points and five rebounds. Freshman guard Kailyn Strawbridge is averaging a team-leading 11.4 points a game, while O'Connor is grabbing a team-high 4.0 rebounds a game. Graduate student guard Jessica Cerda and freshman guard Ellie Rice are tied for second on the team in scoring with an average of 7.4 points a game.

SERIES HISTORY: Loyola has posted a 17-4 advantage in the all-time series with Chicago State as Friday's matchup at the JCC serves as the 22nd lifetime meeting on the hardwood. The Ramblers claimed a close 59-54 victory in the teams' last meeting on Dec. 10, 2016 with three players scoring in double figures, led by Brandi Segars' 14 points. CSU was led by Cailin Nix and Cerda as both players recorded 22 points apiece.

WAC LEADER: Mata Boix currently leads the Western Athletic Conference in rebounds per game, blocked shots (21) and blocked shots per game.

UP NEXT: CSU opens a five-game road swing this Sunday when it heads to Dayton, Ohio to battle Wright State at the Nutter Center with a start time of 1 p.m.
