OPENING TIP: Chicago State women's basketball closes out the month of November by heading downstate to Macomb, Ill., for its second contest against Western Illinois on Wednesday night at Western Hall live on ESPN 3 with a start time of 7 p.m.
SCOUTING CSU: CSU enters this week's slate sporting a record of 0-6 on the season after concluding its four-game homestand last Sunday with a 79-40 defeat to Morehead State at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center. Three players currently average double figure scoring for the Cougars with redshirt sophomore forward Ines Mata Boix leading the team with 12.8 points, 9.8 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game while shooting 56 percent from the field. Freshman guard Tyeshia Bowers is averaging 11.5 points and 2.8 assists per game followed by redshirt senior guard Phylicia Johnson with 10.5 points and a team-leading 3.5 assists per contest.
SCOUTING WIU: Western Illinois brings a 5-2 season record into its rematch with Chicago State following a 77-67 home loss to Milwaukee last Sunday at Western Hall. Four players scored in double figures against the Panthers with senior guard Emily Clemens recording a team-high 17 points. Clemens leads WIU with averages of 16.4 points, 8.7 assists and 4.1 steals a game while connecting on 83 percent of her free throw chances and shooting 44 percent from the field. Senior forward Olivia Braun is posting team high numbers of 6.7 rebounds and 1.7 blocked shots per game.
SERIES HISTORY: Western Illinois leads the all-time series over Chicago State by a 35-2 margin after winning the teams' first meeting last Wednesday by a score of 83-45. Clemens recorded game highs of 21 points, eight steals and six assists to lead the Leathernecks, while the Green and White received 16 rebounds, 14 points and five steals from Mata Boix.
MATA BOIX ON THE BLOCK: Mata Boix leads the Western Athletic Conference in blocked shots (21) and blocked shots per game while ranking sixth in the NCAA D-I standings in both categories.
GETTING TO THE CENTURY MARK: Redshirt senior guard Konner Harris hit a milestone last Monday against Northern Illinois as she played in her 100th career game in a CSU uniform. Harris has now played in 102 games as a Cougar heading into Wednesday.
CSU'S TRIPLE THREAT: The Cougars have had three of their players average double figure scoring over the last five contests in Bowers (13.4 ppg), Mata Boix (12.6 ppg, 10.8 rpg) and Johnson (11.3 ppg).
