Bowers Scores 23 Points for CSU Women’s Basketball on Homecoming

CHICAGO – Freshman Tyeshia Bowers recorded a season-best 23 points as the Chicago State women's basketball team opened a four-game homestand today on Homecoming at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center, but visiting Jackson State would go on to capture an 87-69 win.
 
CSU took an early 14-5 lead over the first five minutes of the first quarter en route to taking a 22-19 advantage. The Tigers later used a 45-25 run through the second and third quarters to gain a 64-47 lead and held on for the win.
 
The Cougars went on to hold advantages over JSU in blocked shots (11-0) and free throw percentage (93%-78%).

Bowers also grabbed a season-high seven rebounds and converted 13 of her 14 free throw attempts. Redshirt sophomore Ines Mata Boix added 12 points and recorded game high rebounding honors with eight boards, and senior Konner Harris posted nine points.
 
Jackson State was paced by Derica Wiggins' game-high 28 points.
 
The Green and White continue their homestand with a Monday night showdown against Northern Illinois with a start time of 7 p.m.
