OPENING TIP: Chicago State women's basketball hits the road for the first time this season tonight as it travels downstate to Champaign to battle Illinois at the State Farm Center with the opening tip set for 7 p.m. The game will have a live broadcast on the Big Ten Network Plus and the Chicago State Radio Network will also be on the air live with Julio Rausseo on the call.

SCOUTING CSU: Chicago State faces its second Big Ten Conference opponent of the season after battling Northwestern in its season/home opener at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center last Friday before falling to the Wildcats by a score of 63-36. Redshirt sophomore forward Ines Mata Boix paced the Cougars in the NU contest by posting career highs of 14 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists while shooting 7-of-12 from the field in her first game in a CSU uniform. Redshirt senior guard Phylicia Johnson contributed eight points and dished out a career-best five assists in her first game as a Cougar.

SCOUTING ILL: Currently into its first season under head coach Nancy Fahey, Illinois heads into tonight's game sporting a 1-1 record after dropping an 85-64 decision at Florida Gulf Coast last Sunday despite receiving 20 points and nine rebounds from junior forward Alex Wittinger. Wittinger leads the Fighting Illini with averages of 16 points, eight rebounds and two steals per game while hitting 56 percent of her attempts from the field. Sophomore guard Brandi Beasley is second on the team in scoring as she averages 10.5 points a game.

SERIES HISTORY: Illinois holds a 5-0 advantage in the all-time series with Chicago State and it's the first meeting between the two schools since 2015-16. The Fighting Illini captured a 69-37 win over the Cougars on Nov. 13, 2015 at Parkland College with Layne Murphy (Country Club Hills, Ill./Rich Central) posting a double-double of 15 points and 14 rebounds to lead CSU.

FACING THE LAND OF LINCOLN: Chicago State is opening the season against consecutive in-state opponents for the second time in three seasons against Northwestern and Illinois. In total, the Cougars will take on five schools from the Land of Lincoln that also includes Northern Illinois, Western Illinois and Loyola.

UP NEXT: CSU returns to the Jones Convocation Center this Saturday afternoon to host Jackson State for Homecoming in a live broadcast on the WAC Digital Network with a start time of 2 p.m.
