Women’s Basketball Starts WAC Play at UT Rio Grande Valley

Sophomore Kaylee Allen recorded 20 points for CSU's WAC opener at UT Rio Grande Valley

EDINBURG, Texas – Chicago State women's basketball team opened its Western Athletic Conference slate Thursday night here with a 71-43 loss to host UT Rio Grande Valley at the UTRGV Fieldhouse.
 
CSU (0-15, 0-1) opened the game with a 22-12 lead following the first quarter and held off a Vaquero rally in the second quarter to go into halftime with a 29-26 halftime advantage. The home team went on to outscore the Green and White by a 45-14 margin in the second half to earn the win.
 
Sophomore Kaylee Allen (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods) paced the Cougars with 20 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals in the contest in addition to connecting on 7-of-8 from the free throw line. Senior Cailin Nix (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville) and sophomore Tiana Thomas (Rockton, Ill./Hononegah) each recorded nine points.
 
The Vaqueros (11-6, 1-0) were paced by Shawnte' Goff's game-high 23 points.
 
Chicago State travels to defending WAC champion New Mexico State this Saturday with a start time of 3 p.m.
