Gonzalo Martinez Earns Singles Win for CSU against IUPUI

Gonzalo Martinez recorded a win at No. 2 singles today versus IUPUI

PARK FOREST, Ill. – Junior Gonzalo Martinez (Madrid, Spain/Nuestra Señora del Buen Consejo) captured his first singles win of the dual match season for the Chicago State men's tennis team here today as it fell to IUPUI, 6-1, at the Park Forest Tennis and Fitness Center.

Gonzalez knocked off Jose Calero in the No. 2 singles contest by scores of 6-3 and 6-4.

Fellow junior Christian Gonzalez (Mungia, Spain/Larramendi Ikastola) dropped a tightly-contested contest to Marcus Nalley at No. 4 via identical tiebreaker 7-6 (10-5 and 10-4) scores. IUPUI also captured the final four singles matches.

In doubles play, junior Rohan Wattley (Slough, United Kingdom/Burnham) and sophomore Felix Savard (Laval, QC Canada/Saint-Gabriel) posted a close 7-6 victory at the No. 2 match over Calero and Mikel Saavedra after taking the tiebreaker by a 10-5 margin.

CSU continues its homestand on Feb. 4 against Green Bay at the H-F Racquet and Fitness Club in Homewood, Ill.
