Gonzalez Posts Singles Win for CSU Men’s Tennis in Its Home Opener

Junior Christian Gonzalez posted a straight-set win today at No. 4 singles against Illinois State

PARK FOREST, Ill. – Junior Christian Gonzalez (Mungia, Spain/Larramendi Ikastola) recorded his first dual match singles win of the season for the Chicago State men's tennis team as it fell to visiting Illinois State, 6-1, in its home opener today at the Park Forest Tennis and Fitness Club.

Gonzalez earned a straight-set victory in his No. 4 singles match against the Redbirds' Peter Foersom via scores of 6-4 and 6-2.

Sophomore Felix Savard (Laval, QC Canada/Saint-Gabriel) dropped a tight three-set battle at No. 1 to Urh Krajnc Domiter via scores of 2-6, 7-6 and 10-8.

After winning the No. 3 doubles by default, ISU captured a pair of close decisions in the other two contests to take a 1-0 lead before winning five of the six singles matches for the win.

Gonzalez and fellow junior Gonzalo Martinez (Madrid, Spain/Nuestra Señora del Buen Consejo) fell to Andreas Boers and Krajnc Domiter by a score of 7-5 at No. 1, while Savard and junior Rohan Wattley (Slough, United Kingdom/Burnham) lost to Dylan Steffens and Matias Chomali by a slim margin of 7-6.

CSU continues its homestand tomorrow morning in Park Forest against IUPUI with a start time of 9 a.m.
