Kostyuk Earns Singles Win in Cougars’ Home Opener against Toledo

Junior Mariya Kostyuk earned a victory at No. 2 singles today against Toledo

FLOSSMOOR, Ill. – Chicago State women's tennis welcomed Mid-American Conference foe Toledo in its home dual match opener here today, but dropped a 6-1 decision to the visiting Rockets at the H-F Racquet and Fitness Center.
 
UT took a 1-0 lead after winning all three doubles matches and won five of the six singles contests.
 
Junior Mariya Kostyuk (Kyiv, Ukraine/International School) scored CSU's lone point of the match as she earned a 6-2, 6-3 win over Colleen O'Brien at No. 2 singles.
 
Redshirt senior Carynne Lloyd (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) and junior Lorea Gamboa (Gamiz-Fika, Spain/Larramendi Ikastola) fought tough in their No. 2 doubles match against the Rocket duo of Claire Aleck and Mimi Kendall-Woseley before falling by a score of 6-4.
 
After a week break, Chicago State (2-3) returns to action on February 2 at UIC beginning at 11 a.m.
