Men’s Tennis Closes Season-Opening Weekend with Two at Purdue

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. –
The Chicago State men's tennis team closed out its spring season-opening weekend here today with a pair of matches against host Purdue at the Basham Courts with the Boilermakers winning 7-0 in the opening match and 6-0 in the nightcap.
 
Purdue opened the match by claiming wins in all three doubles contests to go ahead by a 1-0 margin then swept all six singles contests to close the first half of the day.
 
In the second match, both teams only competed in singles matches with the Boilermakers earning another sweep.
 
One of the highlights for CSU was in the No. 5 match as junior Christian Gonzalez (Mungia, Spain/Larramendi Ikastola) claimed a 6-4 first-set victory over Lucas Omer Dages before dropping the final two sets by scores of 6-1 and 10-8.
 
Sophomore Felix Savard (Laval, QC Canada/Saint-Gabriel) played well against Athell Bennet in the No. 2 matchup, but eventually fell via scores of 6-3 and 6-4.  
 
The Cougars close out their road swing on Jan. 27 at DePaul beginning at 7:15 p.m.
