Phyllon Jackson Named Interim Assistant AD for Academic Services/SWA

CSU Athletics has named Phyllon Jackson as Interim Assistant AD for Academic Services/SWA
CHICAGO – Phyllon Jackson has been named Interim Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Services and Senior Woman Administrator for the Chicago State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics as announced today by Interim Athletic Director Tracy Dildy.
 
Jackson has served as Academic Coordinator in the department since the spring of 2015 and was also working as a coordinator with the compliance department.
 
"I'm excited about this opportunity for Phyllon as she brings a lot of experience from universities similar to CSU so she's familiar with working with a university of this magnitude. I think it's going to be great for her to bring in new ideas to the department and we are fortunate to have her in this capacity," stated Dildy.
 
Prior to arriving at CSU, Jackson served as an Academic Counselor and Tutor Coordinator at North Carolina Central University in Durham, N.C., where she also worked as the Program Coordinator for the school's NCAA CHAMPS/Life Skills program for several years. She was responsible for assists in the administration of functions related to academic success by serving as a departmental liaison to faculty and provides information, data and documentation for student-athlete retention and graduation plans.
 
She worked at Greenville Technical College in Greenville, S.C., where she was the Academic Advisor from Oct. 2004 – May 2006. There she provided informational transcripts, diagnostic testing and presented academic advisement to students pursuing professional development opportunities. She guided students with their academic planning by helping them select appropriate courses to satisfy university and financial requirements. Jackson managed a caseload of 250-300 students.
 
In the summer of 2003, Jackson served as a Title III Summer Bridge academic assistant at Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio. She supervised and monitored student behavior in classes, maintained a rapport with students, classroom instructors and mentored students with the goal of supporting their college retention and graduation.
 
Jackson started in higher education as a graduate assistant/retention initiative coordinator – CLASS (AHANA) program at Cleveland State University in Cleveland, Ohio, from August 2002 until June 2003. She directed and coordinated student activities for underrepresented minority groups, monitored student academic performances, mentored students on college life and academic and personal growth, and arranged workshops.

"I am truly blessed to continue serving the students at Chicago State University in an expanded role. I am thankful to Coach Dildy for promoting me to be a part of his administrative team," Jackson said.
 
Jackson received her Bachelor of Arts degree in history with a minor in sociology from West Virginia University in 2001 then went on to get her Master's Degree in public administration with a concentration in public management from Cleveland State University in 2003.
