Men’s Tennis Drops Two Matches at No. 51 Notre Dame

Christian Gonzalez recorded a three-set win at No. 4 singles in the second match of Sunday's doubleheader at No. 51 Notre Dame
NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Chicago State men's tennis finished off its weekend slate here Sunday night as it dropped a pair of matches to No. 51 Notre Dame at the Eck Tennis Pavilion falling 6-1 in the first match and 5-1 in the second contest that only consisted of singles matches.
 
Freshman Gabriel Niculescu (Bucharest, Romania) paced CSU (2-16) in the first match as he earned a pair of wins.
 
Niculescu began the day by teaming with sophomore Christian Gonzalez (Mungia, Spain/Larramendi Ikastola) at No. 1 doubles to capture a 6-4 win over ND's Grayson Broadus and Nathan Griffin. He later earned a thrilling three-set victory in the No. 1 singles contest versus Kenneth Sabacinski after winning by scores of 6-4, 5-7 and 14-12.
 
In the second match, Gonzalez came back from a 7-5 defeat in the first set of his No. 4 singles battle with Drew Dawson to win the final two sets by scores of 6-3 and 10-3.
 
CSU travels to Kansas City this weekend to compete in three matches during the second Western Athletic Conference cluster of the season that begins Friday morning against UT Rio Grande Valley with a start time of 9 a.m.
