Cougars Fall to Seattle, 4-0, at WAC Men’s Tennis Tournament

Gonzalo Martinez took his No. 3 singles match Friday against Seattle into a three-set battle
BROWNSVILLE, Texas – The Chicago State men's tennis team concluded its 2015-16 season here Friday afternoon as it fell to Seattle by a score of 4-0 in the first round of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament, held at the Brownsville Tennis Center.
 
After winning by default at No. 3 doubles, the fourth-seeded Redhawks (11-14) captured the doubles point when the duo of John Stormans and Connor Leahy posted a 6-3 win over freshman Felix Savard (Laval, QC Canada/Saint-Gabriel) and sophomore Rohan Wattley (Slough, United Kingdom/Burnham) in the No. 2 flight.
 
SU opened singles play with a default win at No. 6 before winning at the No. 1 and No. 5 flights to conclude the match.
 
Sophomore Gonzalo Martinez (Madrid, Spain/Nuestra Señora del Buen Consejo) played well for CSU (3-22) in a three-set showdown against Leahy at No. 5 singles by claiming a 6-2 win in the second set after falling in the first set by a close 6-2 margin before Leahy pulled out a 6-0 victory in the final set.
