Men’s Tennis Falls to UIC, 7-0, in Home Finale

Christian Gonzalez played a three-set battle for the Cougars in Wednesday's home finale against UIC
CHICAGO – The Chicago State men's tennis played its final home match of the 2016 season on a sunny Wednesday afternoon at the CSU Tennis Courts against UIC, but it fell by a 7-0 margin to the visiting Flames.
 
UIC took an early 1-0 advantage after posting wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles by identical 6-4 scores.
 
After getting a default win at No. 6 singles, the Flames (9-8) captured four of the final five remaining flights in straight sets.
 
Sophomore Christian Gonzalez (Mungia, Spain/Larramendi Ikastola) played a three-set battle against UIC's Marcelo Dib at No. 4 singles after winning 6-4 in the first set, but dropped the final two sets by scores of 6-2 and 6-4.
 
CSU (2-20) opens a weekend road swing Friday afternoon in Macomb, Ill., as it takes on host Western Illinois with a start time of 1 p.m.
