Women’s Basketball Closes Regular Season at UMKC

Senior Layne Murphy led CSU with 16 points in Saturday's finale at UMKC

KANSAS CITY – The Chicago State women's basketball team closed out its regular season schedule here Saturday afternoon as it dropped a 67-50 Western Athletic Conference decision to host Missouri-Kansas City at the Swinney Recreation Center.

Down 30-10 at the half, the Cougars (4-24, 2-12) came back to outscore the home team by a 40-37 margin in the second half which including a 21-19 advantage in the fourth quarter.

Leading the Green and White was senior Layne Murphy (Country Club Hills, Ill./Rich Central) as she scored 16 points while shooting 6-of-13 from the field and hit all four of her free throw attempts. She also grabbed six rebounds, dished out two assists and posted two blocked shots.

Freshman Kaylee Allen (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods) finished with 14 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the field in addition to recording six rebounds and a game high-tying five steals.

Junior Konner Harris (Sidney, Ohio/Sidney) added nine points, senior Jasmine Sanders (Country Club Hills, Ill./Hillcrest) dished out three assists and freshman Sh'Toya Sanders (Fort Wayne, Ind./Wayne) posted a game-high three blocks for CSU.

The Kangaroos (16-12, 8-5) has three players score in double figures, led by Samantha Waldron's 18 points and five steals.

Chicago State heads into next week's WAC Tournament at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas as the seventh seed with a quarterfinal showdown against the second seed UT Rio Grande Valley on Wednesday with a start time of 4:30 p.m., Pacific Time.
