Men’s Tennis Ends Weekend Slate Versus SIUE and No. 68 Purdue

Sophomore Christian Gonzalez tallied his second win during last weekend's slate of matches against SIUE
CHICAGO – Chicago State men's tennis team ended its weekend slate on Saturday with a pair of home matches at the H-F Racquet and Fitness Club in Homewood, Ill. The Cougars fell to SIU Edwardsville by a score of 5-2 before finishing out the day with a 6-0 defeat to No. 68 Purdue.
 
The sophomore duo of Christian Gonzalez (Mungia, Spain/Larramendi Ikastola) and Gonzalo Martinez (Madrid, Spain/Nuestra Señora del Buen Consejo) struck again for the Green and White with each player capturing their second consecutive win of the weekend by gaining singles victories.
 
Gonzalez captured a 6-2, 7-5 win over Dan Lineberry at No. 4 singles for CSU. Martinez then posted a thrilling three-set win over Jack Desse with scores of 6-4, 3-6 and 11-9 in the final stanza.
 
Playing its second nationally-ranked opponent of the season, the Cougars only battled the Boilermakers in a condensed match with only singles being played.
 
Sophomore Rohan Wattley (Slough, United Kingdom/Burnham) was in a tough three-set battle with Arthur Dobradin after dropping the first set 6-4 and capturing the second set by a 6-3 margin before falling in the final set, 10-8.
 
CSU returns to action on Feb. 12 at H-F with a home contest against Cardinal Stritch with the first serve set for 4:30 p.m.
