Allen Scores Game-High 23 Points at UT Rio Grande Valley

Kaylee Allen scored a game-high 23 points for CSU in Saturday's WAC contest at UTRGV

Box Score EDINBURG, Texas – Freshman Kaylee Allen (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods) scored a game-high 23 points for Chicago State as it fell to the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley here Saturday night by a score of 78-56 in a Western Athletic Conference battle at the UTRGV Fieldhouse.

Allen shot 6-of-10 from the field, including 3-of-4 from three-point range, and connected on 8-of-10 from the free throw line to go along with nine rebounds in 30 minutes of play for the Green and White.

CSU (4-23, 2-11) opened the first quarter with a 10-5 lead in the first five minutes behind a pair of three-pointers from freshman Kaylee Allen (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods) and later increased its advantage to 13-5 at the 3:33 mark on another Allen jumper en route to a 15-9 lead at the end of the stanza.

The Vaqueros (16-12, 8-5) then posted a 30-6 advantage over the second quarter to head into halftime with a 39-21 lead and later took their biggest lead at 57-33 with 2:10 remaining in the third quarter. The Cougars would get no closer than 18 points for the remainder of the game.

Senior Layne Murphy (Country Club Hills, Ill./Rich Central) grabbed a game-leading 10 rebounds and added eight points, while fellow senior Jasmine Sanders (Country Club Hills, Ill./Hillcrest) dished out a game-high six assists and freshman Sh'Toya Sanders (Fort Wayne, Ind./Wayne) posted three blocked shots for Chicago State.

UTRGV was paced by Shawnté Goff's 21 points and four assists.

The Cougars conclude their regular season slate on March 5 with a WAC showdown at Missouri-Kansas City beginning at 2 p.m.
