OPENING TIP – The Chicago State women's basketball team concludes its non-conference slate on Friday afternoon at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center against former Great West Conference foe NJIT with the start time slated for 2 p.m.

SCOUTING CSU – Chicago State comes into Friday's contest with a season record of 0-13 and is looking for its first victory of the 2016-17 season after suffering an 81-53 loss at Cincinnati on Wednesday night in the first-ever meeting between the two teams despite having three players finish the game with double figure scoring. Sophomore guard/forward Kaylee Allen (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods) leads CSU with averages of 13.8 points and 2.3 assists per game in addition to shooting 79 percent from the free throw line and posted a team-leading 10 blocked shots. Redshirt junior guard Jessica Cerda (Streamwood, Ill./Streamwood) is second on the team in scoring at 8.5 points a game, and senior guard Cailin Nix (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville) is posting averages of 7.8 points and a team-leading 1.8 steals per contest. Junior guard Destiny Harris (Crete, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) is grabbing a team-high 5.8 rebounds per game and is shooting 50 percent from three-point range.

SCOUTING NJIT – NJIT brings a 6-7 record into the Windy City which includes winning three of its last four contests after posting an 83-52 home win over Rutgers-Newark on Wednesday night with four players scoring in double figures. Senior guard Alana Dudley paces the Highlanders in scoring at 11.7 points a game and is also recording a team-best 3.8 assists per contest. Senior forward Leah Horton is averaging 11.2 points per game and has connected on 45 percent of her shots from the field, and junior center Maria Ruban has posted a team-leading average of nine rebounds a game.

SERIES HISTORY – Friday's contest serves as the 14th lifetime game between Chicago State and NJIT on the hardwood with the Cougars holding an 8-5 lead, but this will be the first meeting in Chicago since the 2012-13 season. The Highlanders captured a 59-48 win over CSU in Newark on Jan. 4, 2015 with Layne Murphy (Country Club Hills, Ill./Rich Central) posting 11 points and eight rebounds.

500-POINT CLUB – Allen produced her 500th career points in her return to her hometown of Cincinnati on Wednesday night as she tallied seven points against the host Bearcats. She has amassed 506 points heading into the NJIT game.

UP NEXT – The Cougars head to the Southwest next week to kick off Western Athletic Conference play beginning Thursday, Jan. 5 at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in a WAC Digital Network broadcast starting at 7 p.m.
