Cincinnati Game Notes

CHICAGO -

OPENING TIP – Chicago State women's basketball heads to Ohio on Wednesday evening for a non-conference showdown against host Cincinnati at Fifth Third Arena with the opening tip set for 6 p.m.

SCOUTING CSU – CSU is looking to break into the win column for the first time in 2016-17 as it holds a 0-12 season record and is playing its first game in a week after losing a 64-51 decision at home to Western Michigan on Dec. 21. The Cougars are led by sophomore guard/forward Kaylee Allen (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods) as she is currently averaging 14.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game to go along with nine blocked shots and shooting 82 percent from the free throw line. Redshirt junior guard Jessica Cerda (Streamwood, Ill./Streamwood) is second on the team with 8.3 points a game, while senior guard Cailin Nix (Martinsville, Ind./Martinsville) is posting averages of 7.5 points and a team-leading 1.9 steals per contest.

SCOUTING UC – Cincinnati is playing its first game in a week like CSU and comes into Wednesday's contest sporting an 8-4 record with a two-game winning streak after capturing a 78-64 home victory over Eastern Illinois on Dec. 21. Junior forward Shanice Johnson leads UC with averages of 15.7 points, 9.8 rebounds, 2.9 steals, 2.5 assists and 1.2 blocked shots per game. Johnson is also shooting 49 percent from the field and 44 percent from three-point range. Junior guard Ana Owens is dishing out a team-leading 3.1 assists per game while scoring an average of 13.7 points a game.

SERIES HISTORY – This will be the first-ever meeting on the hardwood between Chicago State and Cincinnati. CSU has produced a 1-2 record against members of the American Athletic Conference with a win over Tulane to go along with losses to Memphis and South Florida. The last time CSU faced an AAC school was in 2010-11 when it dropped a close 51-50 decision at Memphis.

CLOSING IN ON 500 – Allen makes a return to her hometown as a collegian on Wednesday looking to score just one point to tally 500 points for her career.

SUCH THIEVERY – CSU has turned into some crafty thieves on the court through its last five contests with an average of 11 steals per game with Nix producing 2.8 thefts a game that included four against Western Michigan on Dec. 21.

NICE DEBUT – Sophomore guard Nadia Miller (Chicago, Ill./North Lawndale) made her season debut on Dec. 21 against Western Michigan while setting new career highs of five rebounds, four points and two steals in 31 minutes of action.

UP NEXT – CSU returns to the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center for its final contest of 2016 on Friday, Dec. 30 when it takes on former Great West Conference foe NJIT with a start time of 2 p.m.
