Sanders Posts Career Highs to Lead CSU in Close Battle at NIU

DEKALB, Ill. – Sophomore Sh'Toya Sanders (Fort Wayne, Ind./Wayne) had a career night for the Chicago State women's basketball team as it opened a two-game road swing here this evening with a 94-85 defeat to host Northern Illinois at the NIU Convocation Center.
 
The Green and White bounced back from a 48-37 halftime deficit to outscore NIU by a slim 48-46 margin while holding advantages in rebounding (51-40) and blocked shots (6-2).
 
Sanders shot 11-for-22 from the field and went 15-for-19 at the free throw line to tally 38 points and grabbed 23 rebounds, both career high totals, and also contributed five blocked shots in 38 minutes of play.
 
Sophomore Kaylee Allen (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods) added 20 points that included hitting eight of her nine free throw attempts for the Cougars (0-4). Junior Destiny Harris (Crete, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) recorded seven points and six rebounds, while freshman Alexandria Cliff (Manitowoc, Wis./Roncalli) posted seven rebounds and six points.
 
NIU (3-1) had five players score in double figures during the game, led by Courtney Woods' 24 points.
 
CSU returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 26 when it heads to Kentucky for a battle against host Morehead State with a start time of 11 a.m.
