CSU-Valparaiso Game Notes

CHICAGO -

OPENING TIP – Chicago State women's basketball opens a two-game homestand this week at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center beginning Wednesday night against local rival Valparaiso with a start time of 7 p.m.

SCOUTING CSU – The Cougars are 0-1 going into their home opener after dropping an 83-33 decision at Big 12 Conference member Kansas State last Friday. Sophomore forward/center Sh'Toya Sanders (Fort Wayne, Ind./Wayne) paced the Green and White with 11 points, 10 rebounds, four blocked shots and two steals against K-State, while sophomore guard/forward Kaylee Allen (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods) contributed eight points and seven rebounds.

SCOUTING VALPO – Valparaiso opened its 2016-17 slate last Saturday on the road with an 87-75 defeat at Stetson in Deland, Fla. The Crusaders were led by junior forward Dani Franklin as she tallied a career-best 34 points on 12-for-19 shooting from the field, 5-for-7 from three-point range and hit all five of her free throw attempts. Sophomore guard Meredith Hamlet added 12 points, and sophomore center Amber Lindfors recorded eight rebounds and three blocked shots.

SERIES HISTORY – Wednesday's contest will mark the 42nd all-time meeting between Chicago State and Valparaiso with the Crusaders holding a 35-6 advantage, but the teams have not met each other on the hardwood since the 2013-14 season when Valpo claimed a 74-50 win at the Toledo Invitational on Dec. 6, 2013.

CIVIL SERVICE DAY – The promotion for the Valpo game will be "Civil Service Day" as all CSU civil service employees will receive free admission to the game while their guests can get admission to the game for only $5.

ACADEMIC SUCCESS - CSU had four student-athletes receive Academic All-WAC honors last season, including senior guard Konner Harris (Sidney, Ohio/Sidney), redshirt junior guard Jessica Cerda (Streamwood, Ill./Streamwood) and sophomore guard Tiana Thomas (Rockton, Ill./Hononegah).

UP NEXT – CSU closes out its homestand on Saturday afternoon when it welcomes Wright State to the JCC with the opening tip set for 2 p.m.
