Women’s Basketball Falls at CSU Bakersfield in WAC Opener

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Chicago State women's basketball team kicked off its Western Athletic Conference slate here Thursday night after falling to host CSU Bakersfield at the Icardo Center.
 
Leading CSU (2-13, 0-1) was senior Layne Murphy (Country Club Hills, Ill./Rich Central), who recorded a pair of game-highs with 15 points and eight rebounds to go along with four assists and two steals. Murphy shot 5-of-7 from the field and hit all five of her free throw attempts.
 
The Roadrunners (4-12, 1-0) broke an early 5-5 tie in the first quarter with an 18-2 run in a seven-minute span to gain a 23-7 lead and later posted a 44-13 halftime advantage en route to the win.
 
Junior Konner Harris (Sidney, Ohio/Sidney) added 10 points and four assists for the Cougars, while senior Jasmine Sanders (Country Club Hills, Ill./Hillcrest) grabbed a season-high six rebounds.
 
Addi Walters scored 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting from three-point range to lead three players in double figures for Bakersfield.
 
The Green and White return to action this Saturday afternoon as they play at Seattle in a WAC contest with the opening tip set for 2 p.m., Pacific Time.
