Box Score
CHICAGO – Senior Layne Murphy (Country Club Hills, Ill./Rich Central) scored a career-best 24 points as the Chicago State women's basketball team closed out its non-conference slate Sunday afternoon with a 55-48 defeat to Milwaukee at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center.

Murphy shot 7-of-14 from the field and drained 10 of her 11 free throw attempts in addition to posting a season high-tying four steals and two blocked shots.

The Green and White, down by 11-6 and 30-19 margins after the first two quarters, began a comeback in the third quarter as they posted a 10-6 advantage to enter the final period with a 36-30 deficit.

CSU scored seven of the next nine points in the first two minutes of the fourth quarter as it closed within a point at 38-37 after Murphy, who scored five points during the quick run, connected on a pair of free throws.

After the Panthers brought their lead back up to six at 43-37 just a minute later, the Cougars then tallied a quick 7-3 run in less than three minutes to pull within 46-44 on a layup by freshman Sh'Toya Sanders (Fort Wayne, Ind./Wayne), but UWM would score nine of the final 13 points in the final minute to earn the victory.

Sanders added eight points to go along with game highs of eight rebounds and five steals for Chicago State (2-12), while redshirt sophomore Jessica Cerda (Streamwood, Ill./Streamwood) contributed seven points on 2-of-3 shooting from both the field and free throw line.

Three players scored in double figures for Milwaukee (6-6), which included a 16-point effort from Sierra Ford-Washington.

CSU opens Western Athletic Conference play this Thursday night in California as they will face off against CSU Bakersfield with a start time of 7 p.m., Pacific Time.
