CSU Men’s Tennis Drops Two Contests Last Weekend

Sophomore Rohan Wattley captured doubles wins with Felix Savard last weekend and earned a three-set win in CSU's home opener against Chicago
CHICAGO – Fresh off of opening its 2016 campaign a week ago, the Chicago State men's tennis dropped a pair of matches last weekend with a 6-1 defeat at Illinois State on Jan. 23 and a 6-1 loss to NCAA Division III Chicago in its home opener at the H-F Racquet and Fitness Club on Jan. 24.
 
Freshman Gabriel Niculescu (Bucharest, Romania) captured his first collegiate singles victory for CSU against the Redbirds when he defeated Andreas Boers in a thrilling three-set match via scores of 6-2, 4-6 and 6-1.
 
In the No. 2 doubles contest, sophomore Rohan Wattley (Slough, United Kingdom/Burnham) and freshman Felix Savard (Laval, QC Canada/Saint-Gabriel) recorded a 6-1 victory over the ISU duo of Jakub Eisner and Egehan Sertkaya.
 
The duo then claimed their second win of the weekend with a 6-4 defeat of Chicago's No. 2 tandem of Charlie Pei and Peter Leung.
 
Wattley later bounced back on the singles end against UC by posting a 7-5, 6-7 (4-7), 10-5 win in No. 3 singles against Sven Kranz
 
Chicago State returns to action after a week off on Feb. 5 at Northern Illinois with a start time of 6 p.m.
