Women’s Basketball Drops 70-60 Home Decision to New Mexico State

CHICAGO – The Chicago State women's basketball team finished off its short two-game homestand Saturday afternoon at the Jones Convocation Center by battling tough in a 70-60 defeat to defending Western Athletic Conference champion New Mexico State.
 
The Green and White had three players score in double figures against the Aggies while holding advantages in points in the paint (36-14), points off turnovers (22-10), steals (9-8) and fast break points (10-0).
 
CSU (2-16, 0-4 WAC) was paced by senior Layne Murphy (Country Club Hills, Ill./Rich Central) as she filled up the stat sheet against the Aggies by scoring a game-high 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for her 11th double-double. Murphy shot 8-of-15 from the field and converted four of her five free throw attempts while also contributing game highs of six assists and four steals.
 
Freshman Sh'Toya Sanders (Fort Wayne, Ind./Wayne) added 14 points with six rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots, and fellow classmate Kaylee Allen (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods) recorded 12 points and three steals.
 
Tamera William scored 19 points to lead four players in double figures for New Mexico State (15-3, 4-0), while Brianna Freeman grabbed a game-leading 12 rebounds.
 
CSU heads to Phoenix on Thursday, Jan. 21 for a WAC contest at Grand Canyon with a start time of 7 p.m., Mountain Time.
