CHICAGO – Chicago State women's basketball made its return to the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center Thursday night but the return was spoiled by the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley as the visitors claimed a 64-56 win in a Western Athletic Conference battle.
 
The Green and White were paced by freshman Kaylee Allen (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods) as she scored 19 points while adding five rebounds and two assists.
 
Senior Layne Murphy (Country Club Hills, Ill./Rich Central) recorded her 10th double-double as she tallied 15 points on 7-of-13 shooting and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds, while senior Jasmine Sanders (Country Club Hills, Ill./Hillcrest) dished off a season-best seven assists.
 
Junior Konner Harris (Sidney, Ohio/Sidney) and freshman Sh'Toya Sanders (Fort Wayne, Ind./Wayne) each added eight points for CSU (2-15, 0-3)
 
Anushka Maldonado recorded game highs of 28 points and three steals to lead UTRGV (11-7, 3-0).
 
Chicago State closes out its homestand Saturday afternoon against defending WAC champion New Mexico State with the opening tip set for 7 p.m.
