CSU Men’s Tennis Heads to 2015 WAC Tournament in Kansas City

CHICAGO – The Chicago State men's tennis team heads into Western Athletic Conference Tournament this weekend (April 24-26) which will be held at the Plaza Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

CSU (5-18), seeded fourth in the tournament, opens tournament play on Friday afternoon against fifth-seeded Seattle (4-17) in a first round match with a start time of 1 p.m., central time. The winner of Friday's contest will advance to Saturday's semifinal round against top-seeded New Mexico State (9-13) at 1 p.m.

The Cougars are led by senior Sergiu Muresan (Roman, Romania), who has produced a team-best 20-13 record in singles play that includes a 12-7 mark in dual matches. Freshman Christian Gonzalez (Mungia, Spain/Larramendi Ikastola) is second on the team with 18 singles wins with seven of those wins coming in the spring.

Muresan also leads the team in doubles wins with 13 and has captured 11 victories with fellow senior Mario Noboa (Santo Domingo de los Colorados, Ecuador), including a 2-2 mark against WAC opposition.

The winner of the WAC tournament title will gain the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Championship that will start in May.
