Cougars Fall to New Mexico State 62-54

Box Score CHICAGO, IL– Chicago State (4-24, 1-13 WAC) women's basketball team concluded its regular-season with a tough loss vs New Mexico State University (20-7, 13-1 WAC), 62-54, on Saturday afternoon inside the Jones Convocation Center.

Paris Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Pattonville) led both team with 18 points and six rebounds.  Konner Harris (Sidney, Ohio/Sidney) also contributed with 12 points.

The Aggies jumped out to an 8-2 lead after consecutive 3-pointers by Shanice Davis  and Moriah Mack.  With under 14 minutes left in the first half the lead was eight at 12-4.

But midway through the half the Cougars marked seven of nine points to get to within 17-13 at the under-8 media timeout.  The Aggies, however, came out of the timeout and rattled off seven-straight points to take their biggest lead of the half and their first double-digit lead at 24-13. Chicago State did not fold and ended the half outscoring the Aggies 11-6 which cut the New Mexcio State 30-24 heading into the 2nd half.

The Aggies had consecutive shots from beyond the arc to kick off the second half, first by Abby Scott and then by Sasha Weber, quickly opened up a 12-point lead.  A short while later another Scott 3-pointer and Weber jump shot kept the lead at 12 with just over 16 minutes left in the contest.

Chicago State would stay in the game with timely shots, but every time it seemed the Cougars were making a run, the Aggies would come back with a basket themselves. Midway through the final half the Aggies keep hitting the 3-pointers and that extended the lead to 11.  Chicago State answered with a trifecta on its next possession, however, the Aggies kept answering back and keeping the Cougars from getting closer to the lead.

With the game coming to the end, the Cougars pushed even harded with some key three point baskets by Konner Harris (Sidney, Ohio/Sidney) and Calin Nix, the Cougars were able to pull within six with a 8-0 point run, 60-54 before New Mexico ran the clock down to end the game.

The Cougars will be traveling to Las Vegas, Nevada to play againist California Bakersfield in the first round of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament March 11th-14th.
