Women’s Basketball Drops 68-50 Decision to Northern Illinois

CHICAGO – Chicago State women's basketball opened its two-game homestand tonight by dropping a 68-50 decision to Northern Illinois at the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center.
 
The Green and White posted a 14-9 advantage in the first quarter behind the play of freshmen Kaylee Allen (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods) (five points) and Sh'Toya Sanders (Fort Wayne, Ind./Wayne) (four points).
 
NIU, who bounced back in the second quarter by a 19-9 margin for a 28-23 halftime lead, later increased its advantage to 52-33 after the third stanza and cruised to victory despite being outscored by CSU in the fourth quarter by a slim 17-16 margin.
 
Four Cougar players scored in double figures with senior Layne Murphy (Country Club Hills, Ill./Rich Central) tallying her team-leading eighth double-double of the year as she recorded 14 rebounds and 11 points.
 
Allen finished with 10 points and a game-high four steals, while Sanders also posted 10 points and grabbed six rebounds. Junior Caitlin Nix notched a season-best 10 points and dished out four assists for Chicago State (2-11).
 
Ally Lehman posted a double-double of a game-high 21 rebounds and 11 points to go along with nine assists to lead Northern Illinois (7-4).
 
CSU opens the New Year on Sunday afternoon as it welcomes Milwaukee to the Jones Convocation Center with a start time of 2 p.m.
