OPENING TIP – The Chicago State women's basketball team heads back to the Emil and Patricia Jones Convocation Center to kick off a two-game homestand Wednesday night against Northern Illinois in a WAC Digital Network and WVON 1690 AM broadcast with the opening tip set for 7 p.m.

SCOUTING CSU – CSU comes into its final game of the year 2015 with a 2-10 season record after being idle for a week following a close 57-53 loss at Illinois State on Dec. 21. The Cougars are paced by senior forward Layne Murphy (Country Club Hills, Ill./Rich Central)'s averages of 12.7 points, 9.3 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game. Freshman guard/forward Kaylee Allen (Cincinnati, Ohio/Winton Woods) is second on the team in scoring at 11.4 points a game, while freshman forward/center Sh'Toya Sanders (Fort Wayne, Ind./Wayne) is producing a team-leading 1.8 blocked shots a game in addition to ranking second in rebounds (6.6 rpg) and steals (1.5 spg).

SCOUTING NIU – Northern Illinois brings a 6-4 record to the JCC and has captured wins in two of its last three contests, including a close 68-64 home win over Bradley in its last game played on Dec. 21. NIU has three players averaging double figure scoring this season with junior guard Ally Lehman producing team highs of 13.2 points, 10.9 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.4 blocked shots a game. Lehman is also shooting 50 percent from both the field and three-point range while connecting on 89 percent of her free throw attempts. Freshman guard Mikayla Voigt ranks second in scoring with 10.9 points per contest in addition to posting a team-best 1.3 steals a game, and sophomore forward Kelly Smith is averaging 10.2 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.

SERIES HISTORY – Chicago State and Northern Illinois have met on the hardwood 15 times prior to Wednesday's meeting with NIU holding an 11-4 advantage. The teams have not played each other since Dec. 11, 2011 when the Huskies claimed a 73-40 win at the JCC. CSU's last win in the series came on Jan. 3, 2009 via a 76-68 decision in DeKalb.

MURPHY TAKES CSU D-I RECORD – Layne Murphy (Country Club Hills, Ill./Rich Central) captured CSU's Division I career rebounding record on Dec. 21 after grabbing 10 caroms at Illinois State. Murphy passed former Cougar Deborah Scott's (1989-93) total of 709 boards at the 4:47 mark of the second quarter for her 710th career rebound.

BLOCK PARTY – The Cougars continue to come into their own on the defensive front as they are third in the Western Athletic Conference in blocked shots with an average of 4.3 swats per game. Freshman Sh'Toya Sanders (Fort Wayne, Ind./Wayne) leads the WAC in blocks at 1.8 per game, while Layne Murphy (Country Club Hills, Ill./Rich Central) is fourth in the league with 1.4 blocks a game.
