Women’s Basketball Falls at IPFW, 62-51

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Chicago State women's basketball fell to host IPFW by a score of 62-51 here Saturday at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum to open a two-game road swing.
 
IPFW (4-6) posted a 24-13 advantage after the first quarter and later led by a 40-28 margin at halftime.
 
After the Mastodons gained their largest lead of the game at 49-30 with over two minutes left in the third quarter, CSU finished the game by taking the fourth quarter by a 17-13 margin yet couldn't get any closer than nine points down the stretch.  
 
The Cougars (1-8) were paced by senior Layne Murphy (Country Club Hills, Ill./Rich Central) as she posted her fifth double-double of the season with season highs of 18 points and 14 rebounds while shooting 8-of-16 from the field. The 14 boards helped Murphy move into a tie for third place on CSU's Division I career list with Shauntel Manning (1996-99).
 
Freshman Tiana Thomas (Rockton, Ill./Hononegah) added 11 points and three steals off the bench for the Green and White.
 
Kamilah Carter scored 16 points and Keanna Gary finished with 11 points for IPFW.
 
Chicago State closes out its short road swing this Tuesday as it travels to the state of Mississippi to take on Jackson State with a start time of 5:30 p.m.
