CSU Women’s Basketball Falls at Western Illinois

Freshman Sh'Toya Sanders scored a season-high 14 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots at Western Illinois on Saturday night

MACOMB, Ill. – Chicago State women's basketball fell to host Western Illinois here Saturday night at Western Hall by a score of 88-50 in the second game of the Green and White's three-game road swing.
 
The Cougars (0-4) had three players score in double figures for the second consecutive game.
 
Freshman Sh'Toya Sanders (Fort Wayne, Ind./Wayne) tallied season highs of 14 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots to lead CSU. She shot 7-of-13 from the field and five of her rebounds came on the offensive end.
 
Senior Layne Murphy (Country Club Hills, Ill./Rich Central) produced her second double-double of the season after posting 13 points and grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds to go along with three blocks. Freshman Tiana Thomas (Rockton, Ill./Hononegah) scored 12 points on 6-of-11 shooting with four rebounds, two assists and two steals in her first collegiate start.
 
Taylor Higginbotham produced a game-high 21 points off the bench to lead WIU (3-1).
 
The Cougars conclude their road swing on Tuesday night when they travel to Lincoln Park to battle No. 19 DePaul with the opening tip starting at 7 p.m.
