COUGARS FALL 76-51 IN CONFERENCE MATCH AGAINST GRAND CANYON UNIVERSITY

Box Score Chicago State University (3-16; 1-5 WAC) lost the conference match 76- 51 to Grand Canyon University (9-11, 3-3 WAC), Saturday afternoon at the Jones Convocation Center.

In the first half both teams played well with no team leading by more than nine points.  There were four ties and two lead changes.   Jasmine Sanders (Country Club Hills, Ill./Hillcrest) kept the Cougars in the game with her three-point shooting as she went 3-3. At halftime, cougars were down by five, 28-33.

In the second half the Cougars could not hold off the three-point baskets. Grand Canyon shot 61 percent from the three-point line making 13 of 21 attempts.  The Cougars were unable to close the gap as Grand Canyon earned the victory.  

Layne Murphy (Country Club Hills, Ill./Rich Central) led the Cougars with nine rebounds and 17 points just missing a double-double. Jasmine Sanders (Country Club Hills, Ill./Hillcrest) and Paris Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Pattonville) would also contribute 12 points each.

CSU travels next week to Las Cruces, N.M to face New Mexico State, Thursday Feb. 5 at 7:00p.m.  Then they are off to Edinburg, Texas, Saturday Feb. 7  to play UTPA at 2:00p.m
