Rashley Yeremia (Jakarta, Indonesia/) won his third match of the day, but it was not enough as the Chicago State men's tennis team fell 6-1 to the Ball State Cardinals at the Homewood-Flossmoor Racquet and Fitness Club on Thursday afternoon (April 3).
Yeremia won his singles match after losing the first set, 3-6, 7-5, 14-12 over Matt Helm. The CSU junior finished the day 3-1 after winning his two matches vs. Roosevelt earlier in the day.
The Cardinals won the remaining six singles matches. Junior
Sergiu Muresan (Roman, Romania/) won the second set, but ultimately fell 6-2, 5-7, 10-6 to Patrick Elliot. Junior
Mario Noboa (Santo Domingo de los Colorados, Ecuador/) lost 6-3, 6-1 to Ray Leonard. Junior
Julian Chavez (Bogota, Colombia/) suffered a 6-2, 6-3 defeat to Lucas Andersen. Austin Smith was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over junior
Luis Ulloa (Guayaquil, Ecuador/). Pat Downs was victorious over freshman
Uros Pajic (Smederevo, Seribia/Maple Valley) 6-3, 6-1.
Ball State also took the three doubles matches to take the doubles point. Leonard and Smith had a 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles over Chavez and Yeremia. Elliot and Andrew Stutz took down Muresan and Noboa 8-5. Andersen and Helm were 8-3 winners over Pajic and Ulloa to finish the scoring.
The Cougars fell to 4-18 on the year while Ball State jumped to 9-8. CSU has their first match on the Chicago State campus on Sunday (April 6) as they take on the IUPUI Jaguars. The match is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.
