Chicago State Men's Tennis Downed By Kansas City 4-0 In WAC Tournament

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Chicago State men's tennis fell to the Kansas City Kangaroos 4-0 in the opening round of the 2014 Western Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday (April 25) afternoon.
 
The 'Roos earned the doubles point thanks to wins at No. 3 and No. 2 doubles. In an 8-3 win at No. 3, Kansas City's Uldis Gaismins and Andrey Smirnov topped Luis Ulloa (Guayaquil, Ecuador/) and Uros Pajic (Smederevo, Seribia/Maple Valley). Kansas City's Conner Edwards and Vinh Pham followed with an 8-6 victory over Julian Chavez (Bogota, Colombia/) and Rashley Yeremia (Jakarta, Indonesia/) at No. 2 doubles to clinch the point for the 'Roos.
 
In singles play, Gaismins topped Ulloa at No. 5 6-1, 6-2. Smirnov followed with a 6-4, 6-3 defeat of Chavez at No. 2 singles. Tomas Patino then topped Mario Noboa (Santo Domingo de los Colorados, Ecuador/) at No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-1 to give the 'Roos the match 4-0. The rest of the singles matches went unfinished
 
Kansas City improves to 8-14 with the win and will play top seed New Mexico State on Saturday.  The Cougars finish the 2013-14 season 5-22.
