CSU Men's Tennis Splits Doubleheader To End Spring Break Trip

Orlando, Fla. - The Chicago State men's tennis team defeated the Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors 6-1 and lost to the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats 5-1 to wrap up their Spring Break trip on Thursday (March 13).

This match only featured singles play as the Wildcats took five of the six points. Junior Mario Noboa (Santo Domingo de los Colorados, Ecuador/) was the only winner for the Cougars as he took down Santiago Lobelo 6-2, 7-6. 

Walid Gtari beat junior Sergiu Muresan (Roman, Romania/) 6-1, 6-1 while Gilbert Rotich defeated freshman Uros Pajic (Smederevo, Seribia/Maple Valley) 6-2, 7-5.  Diego Garavito was 6-3, 6-2 winner over junior Luis Ulloa (Guayaquil, Ecuador/). Junior Julian Chavez (Bogota, Colombia/) lost 6-4, 6-4 to Pablo Lopez while junior Rashley Yeremia (Jakarta, Indonesia/) fell 6-0, 6-0.

The Cougars won five of the six singles matches to clinch the victory. Noboa and Chavez did not drop a game, winning their matches 6-0, 6-0. Yeremia dropped just one game, defeating Adam Breister 6-1, 6-0. Ulloa was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Derek Sallmann while Muresan was victorious over Ryan Sallmann 6-3, 6-1. Lee Johnson had a 6-3, 6-1 win over Pajic.

Chicago State also won all of the doubles matches. Noboa and Muresan won 8-1 over Zach Birner and Johnson. Pajic and Ulloa had a 8-3 victory over Ryan and Derek Sallmann. Yeremia and Chavez wrapped up the scoring with a 8-0 shutout over David Parez and Austin Wagenknect. 

The Cougars saw their record improve to 3-14 on the season. Wisconsin Lutheran fell to 1-6 while Bethune-Cookman saw their record jump to 3-12. Jack Barton's squad will get back on the court vs St. Louis at the Homewood-Flossmoor Racquet and Fitness Club next Friday (March 21). The match is set to begin at 2 p.m. CT.
