Homewood, Ill. - The Wright State Raiders beat the Chicago State men's tennis team 4-0 on Friday evening (Feb. 14) at the Homewood-Flossmoor Racquet and Fitness Club.

The Raiders took three singles points and the doubles point in the victory.  Freshman Uros Pajic (Smederevo, Seribia/Maple Valley) fell to Hayden Joblin 6-0, 6-1. Junior Julian Chavez (Bogota, Colombia/) lost 6-2, 6-0 to Dan Gilbert while junior Rashley Yeremia (Jakarta, Indonesia/) was beaten by James Trevino 6-0, 6-2. The remaining singles matches were left unfinished as the match was clinched by Wright State.

Yeremia and Chavez defeated Marc Sodini and Trevino 6-1 to pick up the only Cougars' victory of the day. Juniors Mario Noboa (Santo Domingo de los Colorados, Ecuador/) and Sergiu Muresan (Roman, Romania/) were taken down by Joblin and Lauri Makikalli 6-5. Junior Luis Ulloa (Guayaquil, Ecuador/) and Pajic suffered a 6-2 loss at the hands of Gilbert and Michal Lyzwa.

Head coach Jack Barton thought losing the doubles point was the difference in the match.

"We were up to win the doubles point, but couldn't pull it out," said the fourth-year head coach. "It took the wind out of us and we couldn't recover."

Chicago State falls to 0-7 on the season while Wright State improves to 3-4. The Cougars travel with the women's team to Carbondale to take on Southern Illinois tomorrow (Feb. 15). The women's match begins at 10 am while the men's match begins at 2 pm.
