CHICAGO - In the program's first ever WAC contest, the Chicago State women's basketball team was defeated by the Seattle University Redhawks 85-58 tonight (Jan. 2) at the Jones Convocation Center.

Tierra Williams (Detroit, Mich./Lathrup) also added in 15 points and five rebounds to lead the Cougars. Sophomore
Layne Murphy (Country Club Hills, Ill./Rich Central) had her second straight double-digit game (10 points) and sophomore
Jasmine Sanders (Country Club Hills, Ill./Hillcrest) set a career-high with five steals. Â
The Redhawks started the game fast by outscoring the Cougars 18-6 over the first seven and half minutes of action. Chicago State countered with an 11-5 run to cut the deficit to six at 23-17 after junior
Paris Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Pattonville)' layup at the 8:02 mark. Seattle quickly responded and expanded their lead to 22 at the break 44-22.
Seattle didn't allow the Cougars to get any closer in the second half outscoring Chicago State 41-36 in the second stanza.
Chicago State falls to 2-11 on the season and 0-1 in conference play. Seattle improves to 6-8 and 1-0 in the conference. The Cougars continue their home stand against Idaho on Saturday (Jan. 4) beginning at 2 pm.Â
