HOMEWOOD, Ill. – Chicago State men's tennis was edged 4-3 by Summit League member Nebraska Omaha on Sunday (April 7) at the HF Racquet Club. Sophomores
Sergiu Muresan (Roman, Romania/) and
Mario Noboa (Santo Domingo de los Colorados, Ecuador/) each won their singles matches and won at No. 1 doubles.
The pair won 8-4 in doubles over Matt Frost and Nathan Greteman. Chicago State earned the doubles point following a win by at No. 2 by sophomore
Julian Chavez (Bogota, Colombia/) and freshman
Jean Paul Jones (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Cruz del Sur) 8-5 over Conner Tieszen and Ramos Salazar.
In singles play Muresan won at No. 1 over Tieszen 6-4, 6-4. Noboa took down John Ellis 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 in No. 2 singles play.
Omaha won at No. 3, 5 and 6 to even the match at three points. It came down to the No. 4 singles match where Omaha's Carlos Ramos Salazar topped
Jean Paul Jones (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Cruz del Sur) 6-4, 5-7, 6-1.
“Mario and Sergiu had a good day today,” Chicago State head coach
Jack Barton said. “Mario was down 5-1 in the first set and Sergiu was down 4-1 in the second set and they found a way to win. All the matches were close and everyone on this roster has to find ways to pull out matches that will come down to the wire, and they will."
Omaha improves to 5-10. Chicago State is now 1-19. The Cougars start a stretch of three straight Mid-American Conference matches on April 12 at Buffalo.
