MACOMB, Ill. – Chicago State women's track and field compiled 30 points to earn a ninth place finish at Western Illinois' Lee Calhoun Invite on Saturday (April 13).
The Cougars took two of the top five spots in the women's 100-meter dash. Senior
Sharifah Robertson (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) ran a time of 12.32 for second place. Freshman
Alisha Wren (Chicago, Ill./Percy L. Julian) was fifth thanks to a time of 12.82. Wren also had a fifth place performance in the 200 meters (26.43). Junior
Pearl Chitava (Harare, Zimbabwe/The Heritage School) took 10
th in the 200 meters (27.02). Junior
Jaya Emerson (Charlotte, N.C./Hopewell) finished ninth in the shot put thanks to a throw of 12.41 meters. Her 41.04 meters effort in the hammer was good for 13
th.
Only Iowa bested Chicago State in the 4x100 meter relay. Chicago State finished second with a time of 48.37. Robertson, freshman
Cierra Goodson (Waukegan, Ill./Waukegan), freshman
Joshlynn Scott (Chicago, Ill./Kenwood) and Wren teamed for the mark.
The Cougars had another good showing in the 4x400 relay. Senior
Sydney Van Munster (Hudsonville, Mich./Portland), Goodman, senior
Brittney Riley (Chicago, Ill./) and Scott finished fourth (4:09.08).
"Sharifah continues to show consistency with a second place performance in the 100 meters and a solid lead-off leg in the 4x100 relay," Chicago State track and field head coach
Craig Collins said.
The Cougars return to action on Saturday (April 20) at SIUE's Gateway Invitational.
