HOMEWOOD, Ill. – Sophomore
Sergiu Muresan (Roman, Romania/) won his third consecutive match contest for Chicago State men's tennis on Tuesday (March 19) afternoon at the H-F Racquet Club. However it wasn't enough to lift the Cougars to a victory as Eastern Illinois bested Chicago State 5-2.
Muresan won at No. 1 singles over Michael Sperry 7-6, 5-7, 10-7.
“Sergiu played on a twisted ankle in the second set but pulled out the victory,” Chicago State head coach
Jack Barton said.
The Cougars' second point came at No. 5 singles. Sophomore
Rashley Yeremia (Jakarta, Indonesia/) cruised to a win over David Constantinescu 6-2, 6-3.
“It was good to see Rashley get a win,” Barton said. “Plus Mario and Jean Paul made it very close down the stretch.”
Sophomore
Mario Noboa (Santo Domingo de los Colorados, Ecuador/) fell 7-5, 7-5 to Warren Race at No. 2. Freshman
Jean Paul Jones (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Cruz del Sur) lost at No. 4 to Kevin Bauman 6-4, 6-4.
Chicago State falls to 1-15. Eastern Illinois is now 4-3.
