ORLANDO, Fla. – Chicago State men's tennis was on the wrong side of a 6-1 decision on Wednesday (March 13) afternoon to the Northern Kentucky Norse of the Atlantic Sun Conference.
The Cougars' sole point came at No. 1 singles where sophomore
Sergiu Muresan (Roman, Romania/) topped Guillaume Berman 6-7 (2-7), 6-2, 10-5.
Chicago State dropped the doubles point, but did win at No. 2 doubles. Freshman
Jean Paul Jones (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Cruz del Sur) combined with sophomore
Julian Chavez (Bogota, Colombia/) for an 8-6 victory over Pierce Kohls and Jimmy Caccamu 8-6. The other two doubles matches were close, with Chicago State losing at No. 1 8-6 and No. 3 9-7.
“We played well in doubles and were evenly matched,” Chicago State head coach
Jack Barton said. “But we have to understand that the match isn't over if we lose the doubles point. We have to believe we can still win in singles.”
Chicago State falls to 1-13. Northern Kentucky is now 3-7.
