Women's Basketball Falls to .500 in GWC Play With 71-40 Loss To UTPA

CHICAGO – In a Great West Conference matchup, Chicago State women's basketball fell to the visiting University of Texas-Pan American Broncs 71-40 at the Jones Convocation Center on Saturday (Feb. 9) night.
 
Sophomore Jasmine Collins (Richton Park, Ill./Rich South) (Richton Park, Ill./Rich South) led Chicago State with 12 points, six rebounds and two steals. Sophomore Paris Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Pattonville) reached double figures for the 11th time this season (St. Louis, Mo./Pattonville) with 11 points. Sophomore Jackie Jones (Detroit, Mich./Martin Luther King) (Detroit, Mich./Martin Luther King) added six points and five steals.
 
UTPA used a 16-2 run early in the first half to take control of the contest, and ultimately pull away from the Cougars.
 
Bianca Torre led UTPA with 20 points and Joyea Marshall grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds for the Broncs. Torre drained 6-of-10 attempts from beyond the arc.
 
“UTPA played well, you have to give credit where credit is due,” Chicago State head coach Angela Jackson said. “They were able to take advantage of our mistakes and our lack of intensity to start the game.”
 
Chicago State falls to 4-20 overall and 2-2 inside the conference with the loss. UTPA improves to 9-14 overall and 2-3 in the GWC. The Cougars travel to Bakersfield, Calif., for their next contest against CSU Bakersfield. Next year CSU Bakersfield and Chicago State will both be in the Western Athletic Conference.
