BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – In a matchup of two future Western Athletic Conference members, Chicago State women's basketball fell 72-54 at CSU Bakersfield on Saturday (Feb. 16) evening at the Icardo Center.
The Cougars were led offensively by sophomore
Paris Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Pattonville)' (St. Louis, Mo./Pattonville) 14 points. She also grabbed five rebounds. Sophomore
Jasmine Collins (Richton Park, Ill./Rich South) (Richton Park, Ill./Rich South) and freshman
Layne Murphy (Country Club Hills, Ill./Rich Central) (Country Club Hills, Ill./Rich Central) each scored 11 points and recorded six rebounds. Murphy also had three blocks and two steals.
Janae Coffee led the Roadrunners with 17 points. Tyonna Outland had a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Chicago State struggled out of the gates, with the Roadrunners scoring the first seven points of the game. However in the second half the Cougars outscored the Roadrunners 40-34.
CSU Bakersfield improves to 11-15. Chicago State falls to 4-21. The Cougars return to the court on Feb. 23 against Utah Valley. It will be Senior Night for the Cougars.
