Chicago State Men's Hoops Hosts Non-Conference Urbana On Saturday

Chicago State men's basketball (7-17) hosts a non-conference game against Urbana (Ohio) (10-15) on Saturday (Feb. 16) at 2:05 p.m. CT at the Jones Convocation Center. It is Chicago State's final non-conference home game of the season.

SERIES HISTORY -
It is the second consecutive season Urbana and Chicago State have played. Last season, in the first meeting between the two clubs, Urbana defeated Chicago State 59-55.

DESTINATION: WAC 2013-14 -
Chicago State has accepted an invitation to join the Western Athletic Conference. The Cougars will join the WAC for the 2013-14 season. Thanks to UMKC joining the WAC on Thursday (Feb. 7), the membership for the WAC in 2013-14 includes: California State University, Bakersfield; Chicago State University; Grand Canyon University; University of Idaho; University of Missouri Kansas City; New Mexico State University; Seattle University, The University of Texas-Pan American and Utah Valley University.

QP FOR THREE -
Quinton Pippen (Hamburg, Ark./Hamburg) went 6-for-13 from beyond the arc against NJIT on Feb 9. The last cougar to equal six 3-pointers in a game was Jonathan Montgomery. He went 7-for-11 against NJIT on Jan. 22, 2011. Chicago State lost the contest 86-83.

TAKING IT AWAY -
The Cougars rank 10th in the nation in steals per game by averaging 9.9 swipes a contest.

TIME TO ADD ON -
The Cougars' seven victories are the most since CSU won nine games in 2009-10.

OT TIME -
Chicago State has been on the wrong side of three overtime games this season. The Cougars have a 63-60 loss at Rice (Dec. 19), 83-78 3 OT loss at NJIT (Jan. 12) and fell 66-63 at home to Loyola-Chicago (Jan. 20). The setback at NJIT was Chicago State's longest game since going four overtimes in a 123-121 loss to Utah Valley on Jan. 29, 2009.

BALANCED ATTACK -
The Cougars are the only team in the Great West Conference with five players averaging 8.0 points per game or more.

Chicago State leads the Great West Conference in free throw percentage by making 234-of-319 (.734).

FROM BEYOND THE ARC -
Chicago State leads the Great West Conference in 3-pointers per game with 7.6 per game The 15 treys Chicago State made against Houston Baptist on Jan. 19 are the most by a GWC team this year.

ASSIST WHEN NEEDED -
The Cougars have recorded 12 or more assists in each of their last seven games.

“DISH” MUKES  -
Jamere Dismukes (Park Forest, Ill./Rich East) is averaging 5.1 assists over the Cougars' last six games. He notched seen assists against NJIT (Jan. 12) and vs. Utah Valley (Jan. 26). With most of those games being GWC games, Dismukes leads the GWC with 5.4 assists per game in conference play.

The Cougars have found their way offensively in Great West Conference play, averaging a GWC best 68.8 points per game in conference contests.

Junior Quinton Pippen (Hamburg, Ark./Hamburg) is the nephew of former Chicago Bull Scottie Pippen. Not surprising, Quinton wears No. 33.

Junior Mashawn Chamberlain (Chicago, Ill./De La Salle)'s cousin is New Orleans Hornets forward Anthony Davis. The No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft Davis was in the stands to see Chamberlain when the Cougars played at Tulane on Nov. 18.

PRESEASON ACCOLADES -
CollegeBasketballTalk.com and CollegeSportsMadness.com each pegged senior Jeremy Robinson (Decatur, Ill./Eisenhower) as their 2012-13 Preseason Great West Conference Player of the Year Selection. The GWC head coaches picked Robinson as a 2012-13 All-Preseason First Team selection.

BRAINS AND BRAWN -
In the classroom, Jeremy Robinson (Decatur, Ill./Eisenhower) was a CSU  Athletic Director's Honor Roll choice last year for a GPA over 3.50. Nate Henry (Chicago, Ill./Farragut) was named a Cougar Scholar Athlete for a GPA between 3.00 and 3.49

HOMEGROWN TALENT -
The Chicago State roster features 12 Illinois natives.
