Slow Start Hurts CSU In Loss To Valpo

TOLEDO, Ohio
– Junior Paris Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Pattonville) scored a team-high 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for her sixth career double-double, but it was not enough as the Chicago State Cougars fell to the Valparaiso Crusaders 74-50 in the first game of the Toledo Invite at the Savage Arena.

The Crusaders jumped out to an 11-1 lead in the first half as the Cougars struggled from the floor. Chicago State shot 20.0 percent (6-30), but did end the first stanza on an 11-2 run, trailing 36-19 at the half.

Williams scored 15 points and snagged six rebounds after halftime, collecting her second double-double of the season.

Junior Tierra Williams (Detroit, Mich./Lathrup) scored 16 points including her 600th career point during the second half. She is the 29th Cougar all time to reach the mark as her teammate Paris Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Pattonville) also accomplished the feat against Western Michigan (Dec. 1).

The Cougars scored a season-high 23 bench points and created 14 Valparaiso turnovers.

Valparaiso moved to 1-7 on the season while the Chicago State fell to 1-7. The Cougars get right back on the court as they take on Detroit tomorrow beginning at 3 pm.
