CHICAGO  – Junior Chanel Wilson-Stewart (Hillside, Ill./St. Joseph's) scored a career-high 19 points as did junior Paris Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Pattonville), but it wasn't enough as the Purdue Calumet Peregrines defeated the Chicago State Cougars 68-62 Tuesday (Nov. 26) at the Jones Convocation Center.

Williams finished with her fifth career double-double as she added a team-high 13 rebounds and four steals. Sophomore Jasmine Sanders (Country Club Hills, Ill./Hillcrest) grabbed a career-high nine rebounds along with three steals while also scoring 10 points and dishing out four assists.

The Cougars jumped out to a 17-7 lead in the first half after freshman Konner Harris (Sidney, Ohio/Sidney)' 3-pointer  with 11:45 to go.  The Peregrines went on an 11-0 run capped by Brooklyn Short's bucket with 8:30 remaining.  After more back and forth action, Short's 3-pointer with one second left gave Purdue Calumet the lead heading into halftime, 30-27.  Williams snagged nine of her 13 rebounds in the first stanza and scored 12 points.

The Pegerines maintained their lead in the second half until Wilson-Stewart made a layup while being fouled at the 13:53 mark.  She made the free throw to give the Cougars a 40-39 lead.  Five lead changes and four ties took place over the next several minutes of game action before Patrice McBee's layup with 10:58 left gave the Pegerines the lead for good.  Junior Tierra Williams (Detroit, Mich./Lathrup)' 3-pointer with 2:23 to go cut the deficit to two, but Purdue Calumet kept CSU at bay and secured the victory.

The NAIA school, with a recent win over #18 ranked Division II foe Indianapolis, has a 5-2 record while the Cougars fell to 1-5.  Chicago State returns to the JCC Sunday (Dec. 1) against Western Michigan with tipoff set for 2:00 p.m.
