OMAHA, Neb.
– Junior Tierra Williams (Detroit, Mich./Lathrup) scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds, but the Omaha Mavericks went on a 27-15 in the final 11 minutes to defeat the Cougars 76-62.

Junior Paris Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Pattonville) set a career mark with six steals while also scoring a season-high 20 points.  Sophomore Layne Murphy (Country Club Hills, Ill./Rich Central) scored six points, snagged eight rebounds and three steals in the loss.  Freshman Konner Harris (Sidney, Ohio/Sidney) tied her career high with six points in the first half.

The first 11 minutes of the game featured four lead changes and three ties after Konner Harris (Sidney, Ohio/Sidney) hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 15 with 9:02 left in the first half.  The Mavericks scored eight of the next 10 points and did not relinquish the lead for the rest of the first stanza.

Angela Jackson's squad scored nine of the first 11 points in the second half and led 39-37 with 16:16 to go. The Cougars retained their lead until Omaha's Ericka House hit a three-pointer to give the Summit League foe their first lead of the second half at 45-44 with 13:23 remaining.  Paris Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Pattonville) hit a free throw to tie the game at 45, but the Mavericks took the lead for good after a Sami Pawlak jumper with 12:09 left.

Omaha stretched their lead to 11 at 60-49, but the Cougars quickly cut the deficit to eight, 60-52, with 6:14 to go. Unfortunately, Chicago State never got any closer before falling by the final score.

The Mavericks shot 52.5 percent from the floor (31-59) including 16 of 28 in the second half.

"We didn't do a very good job of containing penetration and getting stops down the stretch," said head coach Angela Jackson.

Jackson also thought Paris Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Pattonville) stood out despite the loss, "Paris did exactly what we wanted her to do," said the 11-year head coach. "She was feeling under the weather and played a great game."

Omaha moved to 2-2 on the young season while the Cougars fell to 1-3.  CSU returns to the court on Saturday (Nov. 23) to take on the IUPUI Jaguars the JCC. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.
