Chicago State Women's Hoops Ends Road Trip At Omaha

Paris Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Pattonville) was named to the College Madness Women's Basketball Preseason All-WAC Second Team.

CONFERENCE HISTORY -

This will be Chicago State's first season in the WAC after spending the previous four seasons in the Great West Conference. The Cougars were an independent from 2006-09 after 12 seasons in the Summit League. Prior to their time in the Summit, Chicago State spent one season in the East Coast League (1993-94) and their first seven years in Division I as an independent.

RENAISSANCE WOMAN - 

Sophomore Layne Murphy (Country Club Hills, Ill./Rich Central) was one of only two players in the GWC to average at least five points, five rebounds, one block and one steal last season (Shanice Steenholdt, HBU).

  

LOOKING DOWN AT EVERYONE -
Chanel Wilson-Stewart (Hillside, Ill./St. Joseph's) currently leads the WAC in rebounds per game (11.7)  (As of Nov. 17) The last Cougar to lead their conference in a category was Jackie Jones (Detroit, Mich./Martin Luther King) in assists (2012-13)

CHICAGO THREE PARTY - 

Tierra Williams (Detroit, Mich./Lathrup) has had at least one three-pointer in 12 of her last 15 games.

GRAND THEFT - 

Layne Murphy (Country Club Hills, Ill./Rich Central) has at least one steal in her last 11 games and 15 of her last 18. 

Tierra Williams (Detroit, Mich./Lathrup) has at least one steal in 11 of her last 13 games.

Chicago State has had at least eight steals in 12 of their last 13 games.

REBOUNDING MACHINES -

Layne Murphy (Country Club Hills, Ill./Rich Central) has had at least four rebounds in 25 of her last 31 games.

      

Paris Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Pattonville) has had at least four rebounds in 20 of her last 24 games.

GETTING BETTER -
Tierra Williams (Detroit, Mich./Lathrup) scored more points as a sophomore (296) than as a freshman (201) as did Chanel Wilson-Stewart (Hillside, Ill./St. Joseph's) (99-74).

DYNAMIC DUO - 

Tierra and Paris Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Pattonville) led or shared the lead in scoring for the Cougars in 21 games last year. The duo has led the team in scoring two games this season.

      

YOUNG ROSTER - 

The Cougars have nine freshmen and sophomores on their roster and no seniors.  They are one of only two teams in the WAC (New Mexico State) to have no seniors on the roster.
