Chicago State Women's Basketball Battles Miami (OH)

PRESEASON AWARDS -

Paris Williams (St. Louis, Mo./Pattonville) was named to the College Madness Women's Basketball Preseason All-WAC Second Team.

CONFERENCE HISTORY -

This will be Chicago State's first season in the WAC after spending the previous four seasons in the Great West Conference. The Cougars were an independent from 2006-09 after 12 seasons in the Summit League. Prior to their time in the Summit, Chicago State spent one season in the East Coast League (1993-94) and their first seven years in Division I as an independent.  

RENAISSANCE WOMAN - 

Sophomore Layne Murphy (Country Club Hills, Ill./Rich Central) was one of only two players in the Great West Conference  to average at least five points, five rebounds, one block and one steal last season (Shanice Steenholdt, HBU).

GREAT START -
Chanel Wilson-Stewart (Hillside, Ill./St. Joseph's) led the team in scoring for the first time in her career in the Cougars' loss to Northwestern. She also has three straight double digit rebound outings and currently ranks first in the WAC in rebounds per game (15.0)  (As of Nov. 13)

SCORING IN BUNCHES - 

Tierra Williams (Detroit, Mich./Lathrup) has scored at least 20 points in four of her last seven games and is averaging 16.7 points per game during that span.

CHICAGO THREE PARTY - 

Tierra Williams (Detroit, Mich./Lathrup) has had at least one three-pointer in 11 of her last 14 games.

GRAND THEFT - 

Layne Murphy (Country Club Hills, Ill./Rich Central) has at least one steal in her last ten games and 14 of her last 17.

Tierra Williams (Detroit, Mich./Lathrup) scored more points as a sophomore (296) than as a freshman (201) as did Chanel Wilson-Stewart (Hillside, Ill./St. Joseph's) (99-74).
