CHICAGO – The Chicago State Student Athlete Advisory Committee hosted the inaugural SAAC Halloween Party on Wednesday (Oct. 30) evening at the Jacoby Dickens Center on Chicago State's campus.
Kindergarten through fifth grade students and their families from nearby Burnside Scholastic Academy were invited to a Halloween party with games, crafts and candy organized by the Chicago State SAAC. The goal of the event was to provide a safe, family friendly Halloween event for local children. Each Chicago State team was responsible for creating and running a game for the kids. Games included "pin the tail on the witch" and "mummy bowling."
"This was our first Halloween event and it was clear the kids had a blast," Chicago State SAAC President and senior women's golfer Brooke Melvin said. "We had great collaboration from all teams in organizing a special night for the students. Thanks to (Academic Services Graduate Assistant)
Whitney Harris and (Associate Athletic Director for Academic Services)
Karen Schiferl for their guidance and support in the event."
The theme for the Western Athletic Conference SAAC in 2013-14 is "Shaping the Youth of the West and Midwest." Wednesday's Halloween event was chosen to fit the WAC's theme for the year. Plans are to continue the event next year.
